NΓΌrburgring. In the resulting film, Dotcom narrates an introduction to one of the centerpieces of world motor-sport.

“This is the Nordschleife in Germany — one of the longest and most terrifying racetracks in the world,” he says. “It twists and turns through the Eifel mountains. It is so large, entire villages are located in its midst. Over the years it has claimed more than 200 lives. (Three-time champion driver) Jackie Stewart called it ‘the Green Hell’.”

The 20km-long northern loop track was the stage for Dotcom’s gleefully self-indulgent project. A superstar competitor in the form of former Formula 1 world champion Kimi Raikkonen was brought in to race the Mercedes carrying the GOOD plate, Dotcom’s old friend Finn Batato drove the AND-plated car and the tycoon, inevitably, drove the car carrying the EVIL plate.

Camera operator Todd Bell later blogged how the shoot was “one of the greatest days of my life”, reporting that it needed 27 cameras, two helicopters and a fixed-wing aircraft to capture the entire race project. The project, filmed over the day, was done as Dotcom, Batato and Raikkonen raced the track. “We had to capture coverage of the entire 12.5 mile racetrack without any retakes or repeats, as though it was a live event.”

The resulting 11-minute video is an homage to the video games in which the track has featured. A small digital map showing the cars’ progress — exactly as in the video games which inspired Dotcom — is in the top right-hand side of the screen. A counter marks time while the three cars race around the track, jockeying for lead with an electronic backing track repeating: “Here we go now, motherfucker.”

For much of the faux race, Raikkonen leads. The staged and scripted showpiece has the Formula 1 champion commanding the “race” until the final stretch, when Dotcom activates the nitrous oxide supercharger. The EVIL car shoots ahead, crossing the finish line first. Batato crosses second, with the champion left to slip in third place. The credits roll to one of Dotcom’s tracks (voice credits Dotcom and Mona).

The world is mine,
And you’re just in it.
Predict the future
While I invent it.
My innovation —
outside the box.
Endless creation,
You know it rocks.
I’m not done.
I’ve just begun.
Kim Dotcom.
